Showcasing ICAO's Progress and Achievements in Environmental Protection.

Since the adoption of the ICAO Long-Term Aspirational Goal (LTAG) by the ICAO Assembly in 2022, significant progress has been made toward its achievement, marking an important period of action. ICAO has advanced aviation environmental protection across the basket of measures—technology, operations, cleaner aviation energies , and the complementary role of the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) . In addition, ICAO works closely with other UN agencies and international organizations to advance climate change adaptation, aerial forest firefighting, and biodiversity protection, thereby contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This video highlights the progress achieved in aviation environmental protection over the last triennium.

  The  International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) addresses aviation's environmental concerns , primarily climate change (CO2 and non-CO2 emissions) and aircraft noise , through global standards, technological innovation (SAF, cleaner tech), operational improvements ( flight paths ), and market-based measures like CORSIA ( Carbon Offsetting & Reduction Scheme for International Aviation ), aiming for net-zero by 2050 via initiatives like State Action Plans and research on contrails. Aviation is being heavily accused of having a significant environmental impact  The industry is already developing alternate power plants, fuels, sources of energy and other solutions that intend to  help reduce adverse footprint   The need for the above is growing faster with increasing environmental concerns  and the growth of the aviation industry itself

  A climate resilient airport is one that has taken steps to prepare for the challenges that climate change and severe weather bring. Airport planning is conducted for many reasons, and they increasingly include consideration of the risks and impacts associated with climate changes and plans for future climate conditions.  The ninth UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 9) , ‘ Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusiveand sustainable industrialization and foster innovation ’, measures the progress made in developing, maintaining, and upgrading resilient infrastructure, including that of airports. Airports face numerous climate challenges which may impact their operations, infrastructure, and business continuity.   SUPPORTING UN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS. The United Nations (UN) adopted the TransformingOur World: 2030 Agenda for SustainableDevelopment in 2015. This agenda is a plan of action for people, planet and prosperity, and seeks to strengthen universal peace in larger freedom. The world should aim to Achieve the 17 SustainableDevelopment Goals (SDGs) and 169 targets by 2030 . Aviation contributes to achieving many of the SDGs directly and indirectly. Attainment of the SDGs relies on advances in  sustainable air transport , which is a driver of sustainable development. In accordance with the recommendation made by the UN Secretary General’s High-Level Advisory Group on Sustainable Transport, all stakeholders must make a genuine commitment to transforming the transport system in terms of individual travel and freight into one that is “safe, affordable, accessible, efficient, and resilient while minimizing carbon and other emissions and environmental impacts.”  This chec...
